The Hospice Family Support Team consists of members of the community who volunteer their time to Visiting Nurse Association of Mercer County's Hospice Program. Volunteers offer loving care, a sympathetic ear and practical help through some of the following services: companionship and support to both the patient and family, provide respite for the caregiver so he/she can runs errands or go out to dinner. Volunteers also read aloud to the patient, write letters, organize photographs, reminisce, listen and perform other duties as unique to each patient and family situation.
Anyone interested in volunteering with VNA of Mercer County Hospice Program must first complete the Family Support Team Training Course. This course covers topics ranging from psychosocial and spiritual dynamics to care and comfort measures for the client. VNA requires that a prospective volunteer wait one year from the time of their loved ones passing to apply for the volunteer program.
The Hospice Family Support Team is about neighbors helping neighbors, people dedicated to helping those live their remaining time with dignity in the comfort of their home, surrounded by their loved ones.
